Nominate The Perforated House For Building of the Year 2023
As one of the most densely populated nations in the world, Singapore has a reputation for tightly packed homes that may not offer a great degree of privacy to homeowners. However, at AR43 Architects, we are determined to tackle this issue through the form of the Perforated House, situated on the Northern side of the city.
We are glad to announce that our dedication to this project has been recognised as we have been nominated for Building of the Year 2023 by ArchDaily, an architectural platform based in Santiago, Chile. Here is what you need to know about this unique residential architecture project.
About the Perforated House
It is safe to say that the Perforated House is a dream for many homeowners. It offers just the right amount of privacy and seclusion without having to sacrifice greenery, ventilation, and natural light – all important components that make a house a home.
You will find that the Perforated House blends perfectly with nature. Sitting on a 6500 ft² plot, the house has pockets of green spaces strewn throughout, acting as a form of barrier between the outside world and the interior. As soon as you step into the house, noise from the streets and passersby is no longer an inconvenience.
Privacy is further enforced through the elevation of private spaces from the ground and a number of intimate corners surrounding the house. We made sure that these private spaces continued to extend to the outdoor grounds, allowing good natural light to filter in and invigorate the home. That being said, we have also cleverly implemented vertically angled sunshades to prevent neighbours from looking in.
Fitting for the Homeowner’s Lifestyle
A home not only has to look aesthetically pleasing but should be functional and liveable as well. The Perforated House is the perfect example of this, as it was specially designed to meet the client’s lifestyle needs and expectations. The owner spends most of his retirement days playing various musical instruments, and it is no surprise that the house should display his love for music.
While the open layout of the living space is where the owner socialises with family and friends, the acoustically designed music studio offers an intimate environment where the owner can curate his instruments on view and perform without disturbing the neighbours.
Another intimate space can be found on the rooftop, which we have purposefully made open space to bring a sense of greenery up to the attic level. During the afternoons, the owner can relax with a cup of tea while enjoying a panoramic view from above. Talk about living the perfect retirement lifestyle.
