Ebony & Ivory 2
Ebony + Ivory, a first solo exhibition was held at The Arts House in October 2008. The twenty-odd works in the exhibition embodied this joyful spirit. The exhibition raised funds for two charities that Lim supports, through the sale of the works. One charity helps needy students in NorthBrooks Secondary School in Yishun, which focuses on the artistically inclined. The other charity is a home for disabled children, Karuna Home in Mysore, India, which Lim helped to build some years ago. Here, we can see the strong synergy that can be fostered between the two fields; the art and architecture, benefiting the community and the socio-environment at large.1 / 2
Paintings & Ceramics
The act of creating art through painting and ceramics is a manifestation of clarity in terms of one’s expression of his or her emotions and state of mind. In this field, Cheng Kooi has dabbled in this and the result of it has been very interesting. It captures those fleeting moments and ideas of an artist, and it is through these visual and physical distillations of creativity can we truly appreciate the artist in his own right.1 / 3
Mural
The mural painting of Cheng Kooi reflects the pursuit of an individual with the passion and zest for life. The mural celebrates the life of an artist and the creativity that is being produced. Commissioned by renowned local fashion designer Peter Kor for his boutique in Purvis Street. Cheng Kooi conceptualized the murals based on the Chinese ink paintings as a creative way to camouflage the exposed cement patches and the turquoise green paint pigments found on the existing walls of the pre-war shophouse. The oriental themed murals compliment the designer’s trademark in his clothing designs. The seamless interaction between different fields of the Arts and architecture is well espoused here.1 / 4
