An ecology driven wildlife sanctuary about 180km from Abu Dhabi, the development proposal was commissioned by TDIC (Tourist Development & Investment Company) in 2007. The proposal has been conceptualized by AR43 Architects in collaboration with two other internationally renowned design firms Silverfox Studios and 40 North.

The development comprises of protected natural habitats for sea turtles, estuary for mangrove habitats, coral reefs, visitors’ reception, educational kiosks, retails, F&B outlets, arced timber jetties, light marinas, water sport & diving centres, sea and land resort villas, tented cabanas, 3 holes golf course, clubhouses and employees’ housing,

The resort development at Deyinah Island, takes its design cue from its close relationship to the sea and the sea-faring heritage of the locals in Abu Dhabi. The roofs of the villas that are closer to the sea aptly resemble the sail of a boat as they softly compliment the maritime culture of the island. The materiality of wood enhances the sensitivity of the building in response to the natural landscape of the sea and the coastal shore of the Island.  This can be seen in the design of the villas located along the beach, acting like cocoons, shielding the user from the elements and at the same time, providing a luxurious staying experience near the sea.
