Joo Chiat Place
A row of six formerly dilapidated shophouses along Joo Chiat Place was transformed for contemporary living while the ornate external facades were carefully restored to its original glory. Commissioned by American developer Dale Hardcastle, this project was collaboration between MUZI Design (project architect), AR43 (concept designer) and Distillery (interior designer). The long and narrow plan is punctuated in the middle by a generous air-well that allows ventilation and natural light to animate the typically dim interior. Floor to ceiling glass frame sliding doors slide open on all sides effectively converting the entire living space into a vast aerie that leads all the way through the kitchen to the rear bamboo garden of the house.
